"What to do when they knock on your door"

On December 1st, 1999 the Firearms Act authorizes the confiscation of hundreds of thousands of legally owns firearms.

As the Dec 1, 1999 "Gun Grab" approaches, I expect the number of "inspections" and cases of harassment to increase.

Under the terms of C-68, the Firearms Act, the police can search your residence WITHOUT A WARRANT. Refusing the search is grounds for a search warrant, since obviously you've got something to hide, right? They can and will decend on you without warning, and it is a criminal offence NOT to help them. And no, you are NOT entitled to a lawyer.

You MUST have a plan of what to do when your door-bell rings and the Emergency Response Team is in your driveway with or without a warrant.

1. Do you have the number of a gun-friendly lawyer (1-888-GUN-LOSS) ?

2. Do you the numbers of a few friends that can come over to video tape the search ?

3. Do you have a loaded camera ready ?

4. Do you have the NFA Primer on Searches ?

5. Do you have the phone numbers of local media on the fridge ?

6. Living in an Apartment Building I have added set off the Fire Alarms to the list. The noise sure upsets the dogs! And people clogging the hallways can't hurt either ! False Alarm - hardly - it will happen before they can explain their presence and my excuse will simply be I thought that must be why they swarmed the building in the first place!

As I am away from home alot, I have also drilled my wife on what to do if the police come knocking. Her first call is a local trusted friend, the second is to our lawyer, and the third is to 911 (just to be sure that the men outside REALLY are police), and then she pages me. All of this happens before she opens the door.

Do you have a plan?
