CILA's Make Annie Fix It Campaign Rationale The bureaucratic bungling by the Department of Justice, the Canadian Firearms Center and the Canadian Firearms Registry at Miramichi has reached titanic and epidemic proportions. Many members of parliament are receiving constant streams of complaints from irate constituent firearms owners. The daily disasters on the Canadian Firearms Digest indicate that the national gun registry is in a state of mass confusion, sheer incompetence, bureaucratic mismanagement and monumental waste. Justice Minister Anne McLellan promised Canadians that firearms owners would not be inconvenienced by gun registration and that the process would take only 10 minutes.According to the NFA's Peter Kearns, in the real world thousands of Canadians have been waiting months for service, spending hours on hold or being bounced from one bureaucrat to the next. Gun owners have been treated rudely by supposedly "civil servants" when calls are finally answered. They have been denied the opportunity to purchase private property in support of their hobbies. Gun owners have been told to violate the criminal code in order to cover up the government's mistakes. If that is not bad enough, they are forced to pay fees and taxes for this shoddy treatment. The Department of Justice is an out of control bureaucratic nightmare. Approximately 5,000 firearms dealers have suffered a dramatic drop in sales and have been driven out of business. This will have a serious trickle-down effect on the Canadian economy. In Ontario Out-of Doors (August, 1999), McLellan characterized the system's start up problems as minor. What do you think? It is high time to make Anne McLellan personally aware of each example of bureaucratic bungling in her department. It is time to hold her personally responsible for correcting each and every injustice. This should be accomplished to the full satisfaction of the people who are paying her salary and the salaries and expenses of all the people in her department and the Canadian Firearms Registry. Complain now and make a difference.
